"Really...? Why are you here?"
Vern looked over at Bart, then to Clark. "We need you, Clark. Luthor's growing." A glance was given to Bart again before Vern backed up. His brown eyes began to glow purple as a three-dimensional hologram appeared in the middle of the barn. It was a representation of the Earth in a perfect sphere. Suddenly, numerous dots began to appear.
"33.1 has reached an all new level. Lex has his own personal army of superhumans with himself at the helm. They're calling themselves the Legion and he specifically made them to fight us." The holographic Earth disappeared and Vern's eyes returned to normal. "We're powerful, but we need all of the help we can get. Are you with us, Boy Scout?"

"Yeah Amigo, we could use your powers..." Bart said with a smile as he crossed his arms. "Well I will leave you two boys to talk, I got a date with Zatanna..." Bart said as he pulled up his hood, he then put on his sunglasses. "Clark, this guy knows what he is talking about...he knows about your planet, and just have fun, man!"

Clark's smile faded. He shoved his hands into his pockets and he looked down. "I don't know," he said. "I've been busy lately..." He took a long pause, and stared at the ground. Finally, he shrugged, and said, "Well, what the hell...I'll give it a shot." He wasn't really sure about his decision, but he decided that he could leave whenever he wanted. Plus, Vern could teach him how to develop his powers.

Vern watched as Bart rocketed away, not even leaving a blur. Then he turned to look at his fellow alien, a smile creeping over his lips.
"Okay, Boy Scout." He took a seat on a nearby tractor. "I didn't learn much about Kryptonian powers or physiology, so explain everything to me. How you get your powers, what you can do, everything."

Clark leaned against a fence, rubbing his chin. "Well, I don't really know how I get my powers...It just sort of happens. I just remember when I was younger, I was stronger and faster than any other kid. I remember that when I got shot for the first time, it left a bruise...Now, I can barely even feel it when someone shoots me."
Then, Clark answered Vern's next question. "What I can do...Well, I'm strong, I can lift trucks without breaking a sweat, and I'm getting stronger. I'm fast, almost as fast as Bart, and I don't get tired when I run. I can easily jump over buildings...No, higher than that. I can't really get hurt...Not easily, at least. Sometimes, I can even see through things, and send heat beams out of my eyes. It seems like every day, I can do something else."
"Everything."
Clark wasn't sure what to say...He wasn't sure whether to trust Vern or not, but he seemed like a good enough guy. "Well, I've lived here for as long as I can remember. I sort of have a weakness, though...A rock called Kryptonite. Every color has a different effect on me, but it's usually green. It hurts, and blocks out my powers." He immedietly stopped talking. Could Vern use his weakness against him?

"No teleportation? No telepathy?" Well, why would he have that? After all, not all Valeronians had Vern's powers either.
"Okay. My birth name is Vartox, son of Voltix. My father was a major scientist on Valeron, my home planet. He experimented with hyperspace travel, which was what eventually allowed him to save me. When I was an infant, I was accidentally exposed to hyperspace radiation that mutated me on a genetic level, making me far above my fellow Valeronians. However, I wouldn't come into my powers until my teen years, but then it was too late."
"The Tynolans were our enemies. They wanted to conquer everything and anything that didn't follow their way of life. Valeron had a planetary forcefield that kept them out. We were staunch allies with Krypton; we traded technology with them, we were best friends. But when Krypton was destroyed, our forcefield was temporarily disrupted and allowed them get through in. They committed massive genocide, eliminating all Valeronians except one. My father saved me with his hyperspace technology."
"I was found by the O'Vaughn family in Indiana, who raised me as their own. When I reached puberty, I started displaying powers. I could move things with my mind, I could throw cars through the air, I could read people's minds, I could see through walls, I could teleport, I could harness hyper-energy and generate it."
"But I have a psychological fear of fire, which temporarily disrupts my power. Fire's more common than Kryptonite, which is why we need you. We're the powerhouses and we switch off depending on the weakness." Vern stood up. "What do you say, Boy Scout?"

"Hmm..." Clark didn't know what to do. Why did they need him if Vern was so powerful? Thoughts kept popping into his head...Finally, he decided that even though Vern was a little more powerful than him, fire was too common, and he was bound to run into it some time. "Sure." Clark stood up and held out his hand. "I'm already sick of being called Boy Scout, but that's life."

A smile spread across his lips as Clark agreed.
"I'm already sick of being called Boy Scout, but that's life."
Vern took Clark's hand into his own and shook it firmly. "Who knows? Maybe if you do enough missions and show that you're loyal enough to the League, then you'll be upgraded to Scout Master."

Clark laughed a bit. "Yeah, maybe." He let go of Vern's hand, then said, "You lead the way, alien boy." This could be fun, Clark thought, a smile on his face that wouldn't go away.

As the two walked out of the barn, the world seemed to fall in slow motion. On this day, one of the greatest alliances in the history of the universe was forged. Superman and Starman, strange visitors from other planets, would be among the most well known of friendships, along with Superman and Batman, or Green Arrow and Green Lantern.
